If your child needs a little help paying for a winter sport, there’s still time to apply for financial aid for student-athletes. Caris Sports Foundation provides aid so that athletes can compete in organized recreational and competitive sports. But potential applicants must move quickly. The deadline to apply is Jan. 31!
Applicants must be a full-time student (K-12), demonstrate a financial need, be an Arizona resident, participate with an Arizona organization approved by CSF and provide documentation from the club/organization/camp of funds needed to participate.
CSF offers two types of scholarships: one for competitive programs that focus on participation in club level sports that are based on athletic ability and talent. It is intended for student-athletes who want to join teams that compete at a high level and require tryouts, participate in weekend tournaments and potentially involve travel. The second application is for recreational programs, which emphasize participation in sports that are not based on ability or talent. The main purpose is to give student-athletes a chance to take part in a sport they love.
Once applications are reviewed, decisions will be made in February with email notifications sent to recipients in the third week of the month. Decisions are made based on demonstrated need, available funding, and the applicant’s eligibility to join the organization of his or her choice. Scholarships are for one season and funds will be paid directly to the applicant’s sports club/ organization/camp on behalf of the applicant.
